Sci-Port Offering STEM Classes for Kids and Parents
Sci-port may be temporarily closed, but that's not stopping the center from delivering serious science knowledge to the citizens of the Shreveport. Yesterday kicked off the "Build a Better Brain," 6-week program aimed at teaching parents how to teach their kids about STEM. STEM is an acronym that stands for: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Since these disciplines are advancing at an astronomical rate, it can be hard to keep up with what our kids need to be learning. This 6-week course will help parents wrap their heads around what schools are dishing out these days, and even what to expect next!
Parents aren't the only ones getting in on the fun, there is plenty for the kids to get into too! The best part is the "secret" learning that's going on right under their noses. The open-ended projects that Sci-Port has planned for them will make them smarter while they think they are playing! With parents and kids both on the same track, I see very bright things in the future of the SBC.
The free program is open to the public and offered every Tuesday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. through Nov. 28 at the Shreve Memorial Library's Wallette Branch.
