Enhanced Risk Of Severe Weather For Mother’s Day

Mother's Day 2021 could be an active weather day for the Ark-La-Tex, especially when it comes to thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service starts the day with this advisory:

"Mother's Day could be a rough one weather wise as damaging wind gusts, large hail and excessive heavy rainfall could develop during the afternoon and evening hours across the Four State Region. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out as well."

The National Weather Service also predicts an "enhanced" risk for severe weather. With win speeds of 70 miles per hour possible, to go along with a chance of golf ball sized hail. There is a "low" risk of a tornado, but that's elevated from "very low".

Outside of the severe risk, the National Weather Service predicts a 79% chance of rain in the Shreveport and Bossier areas today. The rain chances appear to be tied to a cold front that the National Weather Service expects to arrive in the afternoon:

"Rain chances will be tied to afternoon heating along and ahead of a cold front that will move into our region from the northwest. Severe thunderstorms are likely near and to the southeast of the Interstate 30 Corridor this afternoon through the evening hours."

The Weather Channel also predicts a stormy Mother's Day. With their forecast calling for rain to start at approximately 2pm local time, and a projected risk of thunderstorms lasting all the way into tomorrow. Based on their assigned percentages for when to expect rain, The Weather Channel predicts the best chance of rain, 93% as of the publishing of this story, at 5pm local time.
