Residents in Louisiana and Several Other States File Petitions to Secede

Several states, including Louisiana want to secede from the country. Nearly 2 dozen states have started petitions to withdraw from the United States of America.

Thousands of Americans have signed the petitions asking for permission to peacefully secede from the United States. The petitions were filed on the government website, We the People.

Louisiana was the first state to file the petition. Others have followed suit. Here's the list: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. The Texas petition has gathered the most signatures so far with more than 23 thousand people signing on to support the effort.

Petitions that get 25,000 signatures within a month require an official response from the Obama administration.
