Rep. Seabaugh Talks State Legislative Leadership [VIDEO]
State Rep. Alan Seabaugh talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the upcoming selection of leadership positions in both the Louisiana State Senate and House of Representatives.
Seabaugh tells KEEL listeners that the vote, which will take place in January, will almost certainly elect Republican Page Cortez as President of the Senate. He will replace outgoing Senator John Alario.
On the House side, Seabaugh says that the Speaker position is down to two Republican candidates, Sherman Mack from Albany and Clay Schexnayder of Ascension Parish. Seabaugh says each is attempting to get the needed votes by building coalitions within the House, Mack with the large block of conservative Republicans and Schexnayder, with a small block of Republicans, plus Democrat legislators, who will be more inclined to back the candidate they view as more likely to be influenced by the governor.
The vote in both houses will take place on January 13, the same day new legislators are sworn in to office.
