Political analyst Scott Hughes talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the proposed $186 million bond proposal, which will go to Shreveport voters in November.

"We can take the debt on. We''re paying the tax now," says Hughes, responding to concerns the city might not be able to handle a new financial burden. "In terms of can we handle it, we're handling it now." But the local pundit does have his concerns. "Do we need it? And has it been vetted properly. And where we are today, is it something the voters will vote for."

Hughes also does a quick analysis of the proposal's chances of passing. "A lot of people...tend to be anti-tax, he says, "But if you look at the history of Shreveport, I can't remember more than once or twice that we've ever voted a tax down. My gut is, right now...it likely passes."
