Our area has gotten several inches of rain over the past few days and that is causing a swift current on the river which is rising.

The Commission is closing the launches as a safety precaution. But the river is still open to boat traffic.

All of the recreation areas are still open, but the boat launches at these sites are closed. The Waterway Commission issued this statement:

"We regret any inconvenience this may cause to boaters and commercial fishermen wishing to utilize these facilities to access the Red River. The boat launches will be re-opened as soon as conditions permit the public to utilize the ramps safely."
