Shreveport guitar legend James Burton remains in the hospital in Nashville after slipping and falling on Thanksgiving morning. This accident required a hip replacement surgery at Vanderbilt in the Music City.

Family members report the surgery was successful, however Burton remains in serious condition, but there has been some improvement.

When this accident happened on the holiday, the Burton family posted a message urging area residents to lift him up in prayers.

Back in October Burton the 83 year old musician underwent surgery at Nashville's Vanderbilt Hospital and asked his fans to "pray for complete healing." He announced on social media in September that he was diagnosed with kidney cancer. KEEL News spoke with Burton and he told us doctors removed a kidney and he was struggling to adjust to life with one kidney. But he was thrilled to tell us the cancer was gone and he was on the mend. But he did tell us he's slowing down. During that conversation he sounded weak at times, but at other times, sounded like the same vibrant and active man we are so thrilled to know. He did want to thank everyone for all the prayers, text messages and calls.

Throughout his career, in addition to be a highly sought after studio guitarist, Burton has played with some of the top names in the music industry, including The Everly Brothers, Glen Campbell, John Denver, Judy Collins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Joni Mitchell, Elvis Costello, and Roy Orbison. But his most famous work was his many years playing with legendary entertainer, Elvis Presley.
