Pope Endorses Same Sex Civil Unions in New Documentary [VIDEO]

The leader of the global Catholic Church is speaking out on same sex civil unions, and his throngs of fans and followers might, or might not be surprised at his thoughts on the subject. According to WWL in New Orleans, Pope Francis endorsed same sex civil unions for the first time as pontiff during an interview to promote the feature-length documentary “Francesco", which made it's debut this week at the Rome Film Festival.

Pope Francis had several sit down interviews ahead of the film's premiere, and he said “Homosexual people have the right to be in a family. They are children of God, You can't kick someone out of a family, nor make their life miserable for this. What we have to have is a civil union law; that way they are legally covered.” Although he has never come out publicity as pontiff to endorse same sex unions, he did, as archbishop of Buenos Aires, endorse civil unions for gay couples, as opposed to same sex marriage.

"Francesco" took years to complete, and it's been said that it's more than just a biopic about the Pope. Director Evgeny Afineevsky was privileged to be able to access many things other have not to put together this glimpse into the pontiff's life. Those include Vatican television archives, cardinals, and even the pope himself. The biopic was filmed all over the world, including Francis' native Argentina, Cox’s Bazaar in Bangladesh, and the US / Mexico border.
