Mardi Gras season in Shreveport is on full blast after this past weekend. Saturday night, the Krewe of Centaur hosted their Grand Bal 33 at the Shreveport Convention Center. It was an event full of music, confetti, dancing, pyro, confetti, amazing costumes, phenomenal table decorations, seriously...more confetti, and a royal court for the ages.
If you're not familiar with the Krewe of Centaur Grand Bal, it has become one of the largest Mardi Gras celebrations around. Its the biggest Mardi Gras Bal in the Ark-La-Tex, and probably north of I-10 in general. The event features the Krewe's royal court appearing in their consumes and decorating their tables to host guests, all following a theme. This year's Centaur Bal theme was Icons in Toyland, a celebration of toys. Including board games, action figures, dolls, video games, card games, and other various toys from history.
The event will showcase all of the royalty on stage, where they can show off their consumes and all of the hard work that goes into them. The evening usually starts off with the Krewe's Captain, which for Centaur is Captain XIX Ricky Bridges. Then there's a farewell to last year's King and Queen, which for Grand Bal 33 is King 32 Kole Caston and Queen 32 Kelly Dick. Then it shifts to this year's full Royal Court 33. This includes the Princes and Princesses, who don't really have traditional "costumes", just tuxedoes and gowns. These are generally younger Krewe members, or family of Krewe members. Then the Dukes and Duchesses, and of course, the King and Queen.
Not only do the Royals come out to the stage to show off their costumes, they will hop on mini-float-like-carts to ride the room and throw beads and gifts to attendees. While confetti rains down on them.
Words don't really tell the story as well as the pictures, so check those out here:
