UPDATE, Feb. 24, 2016:  The pedestrian killed after being struck by a train is identified as 22-year-old Stephen Tyler Downs of Ruston.

UPDATE:  The investigation into this morning's pedestrian-train accident continues.

Witnesses have told police the victim was walking south on the shoulder of the northbound lanes of Airline Drive, just south of I-20, when he tried to cross the railroad tracks in front of a moving train and got stuck.

The crossing's warning lights and gates were reportedly operational at the time.

UPDATE:  Bossier City police say all northbound lanes of Airline Drive are back open.

The name of the man killed in this morning's accident isn't being released pending notification of family.

ORIGINAL STORY:  Bossier City police are investigating a fatal accident in which a pedestrian was struck by a train.

Police say the incident happened just after 11 a.m. at the crossing on Airline Drive at I-20. The police department's Crash Investigation Unit is looking into the accident.

Police have all northbound lanes of Airline Drive at Old Minden Road closed temporarily. Southbound lanes remain open.
