Take a Minute to Remember Officers Lost in Line of Duty in NW Louisiana
We take a minute this week to remember all of the men and women in law enforcement who had died protecting all of us.
There is a ceremony being held Wednesday at 9am at the courthouse in Benton. Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington is hosting the event this year. Law enforcement officers from around the region will be attending this memorial along with family members who have lost a loved one. This event is also open to the public.
You are also encouraged to pay a visit to the memorial on the riverfront in downtown Shreveport. It is next to the Aquarium. It includes stone markers for officers killed going back to the 1800's. The Sheriff encourages you to visit the Memorial and teach your children about the sacrifices police officers, sheriff's deputies and state troopers make every day.
In the last few years, we have lost several officers in our region. That list includes Caddo Deputy Lonnie Thacker in 2021. William Earl Collins, Jr. with the Doyline Police Department and the Webster Parish Sheriff's Department. Webster Parish also lost deputy Trey Copeland in 2021. DeSoto Parish Deputy Sheriff Donna Richardson-Below lost her life in a tragic two car accident on U.S. Highway 84 in 2020.
But these are just the most recent deaths. We have several officers and deputies we will honor and remember this week.
