Applications are being accepted for the next Paint Your Heart Out Shreveport. The daylong event will be held Saturday, May 18, 2013. Each year, more than 1,000 volunteers go all over the city to paint the homes of low to moderate-income elderly and/or disabled residents. In addition to painting, volunteers also perform minor repairs and landscaping ranging from planting flowers to fixing kitchen sinks.

Homeowners have until October 31, 2012, to sign up to have their house painted at no charge.  Approved applicants must meet the income requirements, be at least 62 years old, and/or disabled. Houses must be located within the Shreveport city limits in order to qualify. The goal for the 2013 program is to paint 50 houses. Homeowners also receive smoke detectors, dead bolt locks, and other special services.

If you or your organization would like to volunteer to paint a house or become a sponsor please call the Department of Community Development’s Bureau of Housing & Business Development at (318) 673-7503, or Marcia Nelson, Program Coordinator at (318) 673-7528 to apply.
