Paddlin’ Professor Makes 11th Annual Swim

Tomorrow, the man dubbed "The Paddlin' Professor" makes his 11th annual long-distance swim in Cross Lake. 90-year-old Dr. Harry Briggs does this every year, hoping to raise donations to support a Northwestern State University women's tennis scholarship fund in his late wife's name. This will be the fourth consecutive year for Dr. Briggs' Cross Lake swim. Previous swims have taken place in the Red River in both Shreveport and Alexandria -- and in Sibley and Cane River Lakes in Natchitoches. He'll begin tomorrow's swim near the Cross Lake Bridge at 10 a.m. -- and wrap things up by about noon at Melvin's Landing.
