Ollie Tyler: “We Erred in Not Attending the Meeting on Crime”
Crime fighting in Shreveport is a top priority for many city leaders, but so far no plan is in place to have the Caddo Parish Sheriff come in to help patrol the city.
Police Chief Alan Crump and Mayor Ollie Tyler have been criticized for not attending a meeting Parish Commissioners have held about funding the joint effort. Tyler told the City Council, her team "erred in not attending that meeting." She added someone from SPD will be at any future meetings. She says we "want all the help we can get to fight crime in this city." The Mayor says leaders in the police department have made with top officials in the Sheriff's office to begin working on a plan. But the final details have not been wrapped up.
Who is on the team working on a plan to get deputies on patrol in the city? We asked Sheriff Steve Prator about the progress on that front.
