We pause today to remember one of Shreveport's finest, officer Thomas LaValley. He was killed while responding to a call about a suspicious person at a home in the Queensborough neighborhood on August 5, 2015.

The 29-year-old LaValley was shot multiple times by Grover Cannon. Police converged on the neighborhood and after a round the clock manhunt, Cannon was captured and charged with first degree murder of a police officer.

Chris Redford was one of LaValley's closest friends and they worked together at KTBS for a while. Redford posted this on his Facebook page this morning:

5-years ago today lost one of my best friends ever
Long live and love 1284. Miss you Thomas
BLUE LIVES MATTER TOO.

LaValley always dreamed of being a police officer

We honor Thomas today. He was born on December 19th in Baton Rouge and was a wrestler on the St. Amant High School team. He graduated from Northwestern State University and then started work at KTBS as a videographer. But he followed his dream and went to the police academy. He has been on the force for 4 years before he was killed.

Thomas was a big New Orleans Saints fan and even named his cat "Drew" because of Saints QB Drew Brees.

Grover Cannon was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison. He is locked up at the State Penitentiary at Angola.
