Ochsner Takes Over University Health and Med School
Ochsner Health System is now in charge of the safety net hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe.
The goal of the management change is to stabilize operations at the hospitals and the LSU Medical School in Shreveport.
A new sign went up on the building today. It says Ochsner LSU Health and Academic Medical Center.
Louisiana is paying Ochsner close to $300 million to manage the hospitals, $43 million more BRF received. Ochsner is expected to bring financial stability to the University Health hospitals, which have been fighting to make ends meet over the past few years.
Observers say this will also bring more competition to the local medical community.
Ochsner will operate the hospitals and all of the clinics. The goal of Ochsner is to grow the facilities.
