SHREVEPORT, LA-   Shreveport Police and Fire set to enter partnership with Northwest Louisiana Technical College to provide internship opportunities for automotive mechanics

The Shreveport Police Department is announcing a partnership with Northwest Louisiana Technical College that will allow vehicle technicians in the last six months of their training to work at the Shreveport Police Department and Shreveport Fire Department’s automotive shops.

The students will be mentored and work alongside trained vehicle technicians with years of experience for their final preparation to enter the workforce. This will be a paid internship and all necessary tools will be provided to the students.

Discussions for this program started earlier this year. Mayor Tom Arceneaux and Chief Wayne Smith sought the partnership with the desire to give students nearing graduation the opportunity for real-life work experience with the City of Shreveport.

The signing is expected to take place at the auto mechanic’s training shop located at 2010 North Market at the NLTCC Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.
