Why Frisco, Texas?

The new park will be located on 97 acres of land recently purchased by Universal Parks and Resorts.  The company also said they have plans for an adjacent themed hotel. The property also gives them room for expansion in the future.

Officials said Frisco was chosen because of the city's growing population and it's ability to attract business to the area. The park will be located inside a 2,500 acre development that includes a new PGA headquarters, a new $530 million Omni resort, and around 14,000 new homes under construction. Page Thompson, President, New Ventures, Universal Parks & Resorts said:

“We are excited about the opportunity to partner with the city of Frisco and Mayor Cheney as we work to bring this innovative, new concept to life designed specifically for a younger generation of Universal fans... We think North Texas is the perfect place to launch this unique park for families given its growing popularity within this part of the country.”

Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney said:

“Frisco is one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. and has been recognized as a great place to plant professional roots and raise a family,” said Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney. “This new Universal concept will continue to enhance our tax base, expand employment opportunities and bring even more fun to Frisco benefiting our residents, businesses, and visitors.”

What Will the New Park Feature?

Universal, a subsidiary of NBC Universal, owns the rights to the Marvel Universe, as well as movie franchises like Men in Black, E.T, Spiderman, Shrek, and much more.  There hasn't been a theme announced for this new park, but officials say the park will feature family-friendly attractions, interactive and playful shows, character meet and greets, unique merchandise and fun food and beverage venues. According to Universal Parks:

Although smaller in size, it will still carry the same quality as Universal’s other larger resort destinations.

More details about Universal's new park is expected to be revealed soon.
