New Shreveport Mural Opening in Downtown
The Shreveport Downtown Development Authority announced the opening of a new mural in downtown Shreveport. This isn't your 'typical type of mural'. But I have to admit, it's really pretty cool. The new mural joins several pieces of art featured in downtown, including murals, statues, and sculptures that one can find throughout downtown Shreveport.
The mural, know as 'Ascension', was the brain-child of the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce, who wanted to turn the columns of the elevated roadway into vibrant, welcoming art leading into downtown Shreveport. Another early supporter of the project has been City Council District B representative, LeVette Fuller, an advocate of murals, art projects, and beautification efforts throughout her downtown district.
The project was led by local artist and muralist, Ka'Davien (KD) Baylor, who has a long history of large scale, serious commerial projects. KD coordinated a team of artists that included Ben Moss, Eric Francis, and Willie Love.
The project began several months ago with the power-washing of the underside of the overpass, and preparing the columns to begin painting.
The official opening ceremony and dedication will be Wednesday afternoon, the 3rd, at 5:30P where you can see the art up close and meet the artists.
