State Police at Troop G issued this statement:

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as a 2016 Jeep Compass, driven by 69-year-old Sheryl Murphy of Haughton, was traveling north on Wafer Road.  For reasons still under investigation, Murphy turned into the path of and collided with a southbound 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, operated by 41-year-old Christopher Lussier of Princeton.

Lussier, who was wearing a DOT approved helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bossier Parish Coroner’s Office.  Toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis.  This crash remains under investigation.

While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, distracted and inattentive driving continue to be leading causes of crashes in our state. Louisiana State Police urges all motorists to stay alert while driving.  A lapse in one’s awareness can have deadly consequences.  If motorists witness hazardous situations or possible impaired drivers, they may dial *LSP (*577) to be connected to the nearest Troop to report that activity.

In 2019, Troop G has investigated ten fatal crashes resulting in ten deaths.
