Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul Boxing Brings Economic Boom for Texas
This big boxing match in the heart of Texas is going to be a huge money maker for a lot of people. Its not just Mike Tyson and Jake Paul who will be making money off this match, an entire state will see a profit.
When and Where Is The Tyson vs Paul Fight?
The boxing match is set for Friday, November 15th 2024 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The home of the Dallas Cowboys. It will be a Netflix production, carried on the streaming service. So it won't be your typical pay-per-view boxing event that has been the popular for promoters over the last 40 years. But that doesn't mean tickets won't be sold.
In fact, there will be tens of thousands in attendance to see the fight, and many more who are coming to the area just to be around the aura of the event. That means money for the local economy...and a lot of it.
What Kind of Economic Impact Will The Tyson vs Paul Fight Have?
WFAA in Dallas reports that the economic impact of the event is likely to top the $10 million mark:
"While the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) is still awaiting exact data on ticket sales, its CEO and President Brent DeRaad says the event will bring an estimated $10 million impact to the city. That impact comes from people spending money at restaurants, bars and hotels around the city."
How Does The Tyson vs Paul Fight Compare to a Dallas Cowboys Game?
But looking at where the boxing match is being held, one might expect the NFL football season to have just as much impact on the local economy. Especially when the Dallas Cowboys host regional rivals like the New Orleans Saints, or high profile matchups like hosting the Detroit Lions. However, WFAA says that the data shows the Tyson vs Paul boxing match is drawing more hotel use than all Cowboys games except one:
"Meanwhile, hotels.com reports a 260% increase in demand for Arlington area hotels the night of the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight compared to the same day last year, with rates also up 80% compared to last year, according to Hotels.com. The city's hotel rates for that night are the second-highest seen in Arlington this year, surpassed only by this past weekend's Cowboys vs. Eagles game."
So how about that, an almost 60-year-old former heavyweight boxer fighting a Youtuber in a boxing ring might end up being the biggest boxing match in a generation. Not only that, it might be one of the biggest economic impacts that Texas will see all year.
