House Speaker Mike Johnson Gets Endorsement from Trump
SHREVEPORT, LA - President-Elect Donald Trump makes it clear. He wants Louisiana Congressman Mike Johnson to remain as Speaker of the House.
Despite all the infighting, Trump says he backs Johnson. This could clear the path for Johnson to be re-elected to Speaker's job.
Some Republican members of the House have said they do not support Johnson to continue in this role, but the Johnson team has been working to win the suppport.
Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) is quoted in Axios warning his Republican colleagues about potentially removing House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) from his post when the 119th Congress is sworn in this week.
The vote is expected to be very close with only a one or two vote margin for Johnson. Lawler says a battle over who will be Speaker could delay other action before Congress, including certifying President-elect Trump's win.
But the Johnson train might be back on track with today's post from the President-Elect.
We are keeping a close eye on Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) who says he won't vote for Johnson. Reps. Scott Perry (R.Pa.) and Andy Harris (R-Md.) have also said they have not made a decision yet.
