Today's a big day for medical students. It's Match Day. And this morning at 11 o'clock graduating senior medical students at Shreveport's LSU Health Sciences Center -- along with fellow grads around the country -- learned where they'll be doing their residency training. In a long-standing tradition at the local med school, the seniors came forward one-by-one -- opened sealed envelopes with their names on them -- and announced the residency program where they've been matched. They also received gifts from the Office of Alumni Affairs, put some money in a basket, and drew the next envelope. Why the money in the basket? That went to the last student to come forward -- for having to wait so long. Of this year's local graduating class, almost sixty-percent will be staying in Louisiana and more than half of those will remain here in Shreveport.
