When you read that tens of thousands of Louisiana residents moved out of the Bayou State since 2021, you might think we are seeing some sort of mass exodus.

New data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that nearly 37,000 Louisiana residents moved away from our state from 2021 through 2022, putting Louisiana near the top of states losing population behind New York, California, Illinois and Pennsylvania.

We also recently learned that in North American Van Lines migration report, in 2022, 46% of those using their company were moving into Louisiana.  However, 54% using their company were moving out of Louisiana.

If Not Louisiana, Where?

So, where are all of the people going when they move away from Louisiana?  A new study from FamilyDestinationsGuide.com says that most would head for the Sunshine State, Florida.

In their survey of over 3,000 families, familydestinationsguide.com asked where families would go if they hypothetically could make a clean break and move somewhere else and they got some interesting results!

When asked what foreign country Louisiana families might opt for, the number one choice was Italy.  Apparently, Italy offers American families a high quality of life, a strong economy, beautiful scenery, proximity to other European countries, and the opportunity for cultural immersion. Moving to Italy can be a rewarding and enriching experience for families looking for a change of pace and a new cultural experience.

What Are The Main Reasons Someone Would Move Out of Louisiana?

According to their survey, the number one reason people would leave Louisiana is for better job opportunities with 32% stating that would do it for them.  Behind that was better pay at 24% tied with a healthier lifestyle at 24%.  Another reason was better weather with 16% of those surveyed saying that's why they'd leave.
