Louisiana Man Says He Was Sleepwalking When He Broke Into Truck
If you were a fan of Saturday Night Live back in the late 1980's, seeing a headline like this one should immediately remind you of the Jon Lovitz skits as "Tommy Flanagan - The Pathologic Liar" and his world famous line, "Yeah, that's the ticket."
Let me explain. In the police report, obtained by thesmokinggun.com, on February 16 in Monroe, Christopher T. Samuel, 22 of Monroe, was arrested
According to the arresting officer, Monroe Police Officer David Morris, writes that he was dispatched to 501 S. Grand Street in Ouachita Grand Plaza, after someone claimed they had witnessed a man pulling on the door handles of a number of vehicles and ultimately enter a 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck.
On arrival at the scene, Officer Morris says the witness explained that the accused was walking away from the parking lot. Morris continues by writing, "Upon making contact with Samuel, I advised him of his Rights per Miranda. Samuel advised he entered the vehicle because he was sleepwalking."
Insert the Lovitz line here. "Yeah, I was sleepwalking. That's the ticket."
Can you imagine poor Officer Morris trying to maintain an air of professionalism, without bursting into laughter, the minute those words came out of Samuel's mouth?
I can just hear it now. Did you say you were sleepwalking? And that's the story you're going with?
Regardless of his compelling rationale for being inside the truck, Samuel was promptly arrested.
According to legis.la.gov, if convicted, Samuel could be fined up to $2,000 and imprisoned for up to twelve years.
