Louisiana is #1 on the list. Average prices for homes in the Bayou State are just above $250,000 dollars. The average salary in Louisiana is at $54,000 dollars. Just five years ago, the average price of a home in Louisiana was $206,000 dollars.

Texas is #2 on this list with a median price for a home at $351,900, but the average salary in Texas is $60,000 dollars.
