State health officials have confirmed Louisiana's first West Nile virus death of the year. It happened in Rapides Parish.  

There were also ten more non-fatal cases confirmed this week, bringing this year's total number of cases to 31.  Six of the new cases were neuroinvasive disease -- four of them in Ouachita Parish and one each in Lafayette and St. Tammany Parishes.  There were also four cases of West Nile fever -- three of those in Ouachita Parish and one in St. Tammany
