Louisiana City Named as ‘One of the Loneliest in U.S.’
How many people do you know who live alone in Shreveport these days? It seems that number keeps growing.
The Chamber of Commerce has checked out the census data to compile a list of the loneliest cities in America and you might be surprised to see which cities make the list.
There are no California cities on the top 30 list and New York City is not on the list. Other big cities like Miami and Chicago don’t make the list.
But one city in Louisiana and 2 in Texas are included on this list.
What’s the Loneliest City?
Washington, D.C. tops the list. Census numbers show nearly half of all households in D.C. are a one-person household. More than 150,000 residents live alone in D.C..
St. Louis checks in at #2 on the list while Alexandria, Virginia is #3.
What Are the Least Lonely Cities?
All of the top 5 are in California. Fontana is #1 followed by Oxnard, Morena Valley, Elk Grove and Santa Ana.
What Area Cities Make the List?
New Orleans is #7 for loneliest cities in the nation.
There are more than 70,000 one-person households in New Orleans which is about 45% of the population.
Austin and Dallas also make the list of lonely cities. Austin checks in at #25 while Dallas is #28.
New Orleans is also listed as #5 on the list of loneliest cities for women. 25% of women in the Crescent City live alone.
What Was the Methodology for this Data?
The Chamber of Commerce reviewed U.S. Census data from more than 170 cities that have a population of at least 150,000 people.
