At its grant awards luncheon this afternoon, our northwest Louisiana Susan G. Komen Affiliate handed out grants totaling $250,000 to local health organizations for breast cancer-related programs.  A small grants program for innovative breast health educational programs and breast cancer survivor support is also included in that funding.

Donations from the Komen Race for the Cure this past September and other fundraising events, along with individual donors across the area, made the funding possible.

Grant awards for 2013-2014 were given to:

CHRISTUS Coushatta Health Care Center for "Rural Breast Screening Exams, Mmammograms, Ultrasounds and Education."

LSUHSC-S Feist-Weiller Cancer Center for "Partners In Wellness."

Martin Luther King Health Center for "Women's Health Program."

St. Luke's Episcopal Medical Mobile for "Providing Breast Health Awareness and Access."

Medical Ministry for "Screenings Through Rural Outreach."

The 2013 NWLA Race for the Cure, by the way, is set for Saturday, November 2nd, at Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport.  You can register online HERE for an early bird registration fee of $19 during April.
