Speculation is running rampant.  Has been for weeks.  Is he or isn't he?  Ever since LSU fired former Head Football Coach Brian Kelly, the online boards, X, sports talk-shows have all been awash with discussion about who will be the new head coach for the Bayou Bengals of LSU.

Many names were bantied about for weeks, including former LSU coach Nick Saban.  And that possibility might still fall from the sky shocking the world, but I don't think it's likely.  In the new world of NIL, transfer portals, and paying players millions, Saban has stated in numerous interviews that he has no interest in returning to coach college football.  Not to mention he's got a pretty sweet, easy gig with ESPN's College Gameday.

Has Lane Kiffin Decided on LSU?

The other serious name in discussion is Ole Miss's Head Coach, and Nick Saban protege, Lane Kiffin.  Kiffin has led the Ole Miss Rebels to an overall 10-1 record heading into the "Egg Bowl" this weekend.  (Stupid name for a rivalry game).  A rivalry that goes back to 1926 against Mississippi State.

Florida is also pursuing Kiffin, but according to Ross Dellenger, LSU is preparing a $90 million offer, which includes and additional $25 million in roster cash.

Kiffin isn't expected to announce his decision, whether he's going to stay at Ole Miss, go to Florida, or take the LSU job, until after this weekend's Egg Bowl, so at this point, it's all speculation.

Subtle Clues: A Son's Hint or Just Trolling?

But recently, Knox Kiffin, Lane Kiffin's son was invited to LSU on a recruiting trip.  Not too long after the trip he was spotted wearing LSU headphones during his pregame warmup. A gift sure, but is he trolling the press?  Or is he dropping a not-so-subtle hint?

Only time will tell.
