As many Louisiana residents are looking to save money everywhere they can, lawmakers have rejected one possible relief option. It's a result from the Louisiana House Transportation Committee that plenty of people around the state will have a problem with. A vote that saw Shreveport area fighting, and Republican-on-Republican fighting.

Louisiana Lawmakers Looked to Eliminate Vehicle Inspection Stickers

North Louisiana Representative (District 7) Larry Bagley brought forward House Bill 232 this session, with the intent to eliminate vehicle inspection stickers. This wasn't a new piece of legislation for the House, and it's not a new piece of legislation for Bagley. In fact, this is the third time Bagley has authored a bill to eliminate inspection stickers.

Earlier this year, Bagley told KEEL News that the biggest difference this time is the groups that are supporting the efforts. This time, Bagley said he has the support of the Louisiana State Police, the OMV, and Governor's Office.

But that wasn't enough for HB 232. The bill didn't even get its full day in front of the legislature, because it was killed in the Transportation Committee.

Who Voted Against Getting Rid of Vehicle Inspection Stickers?

Inside the Louisiana House Transportation Committee, HB 232 was met with some instant hostility. Likely because this bill (or one like it) has come in front of them multiple times.

Whatever the reason, it was a bipartisan attack on HB 232, and Bagley even faced a "no" vote from his own area. The "no" votes came from the following Louisiana Representatives:

Chad Michael Boyer (R)
Tehmi Jahi Chassion (D)
Patricia "Pat" Moore (D)
Tammy T. Phelps (D)
Annie Spell (R)
Jeffrey Fons "Jeff" Wiley (R)

Representative Phelps is from District 3, which is a Shreveport district, meaning she voted against a fellow North Louisiana Reps bill. Representatives Boyer, Spell, and Wiley are all Republicans, which Bagley is as well, meaning they voted against their own party on HB 232.
