Kim Mulkey Is Making Some Demands from Louisiana Leaders
LSU basketball coach Kim Mulkey brought home the hardware in the form of a national championship in her 2nd year and she will be financially rewarded for her efforts. But she's not stopping at that. Mulkey gave a speech to the Baton Rouge Rotary Club this week calling on our leaders to renovate the existing arena.
The Pete Maravich Assembly Center is 51 years old and she says it's time for a facelift.
Mulkey told the packed crowd for the lunch gathering "I like things done yesterday" when she was asked how soon the work should be done. She says it's not safe in the arena and you should be sure to hold on to someone when you grab a railing in the facility.
The PMAC did get a makeover in 2009, but things have been deteriorating with no major work since then.
She also issued a challenge to LSU and state leaders, saying the programs could slip in popularity if we don't keep the facility up to date.
She had these tough words for the crowd:
"If they don't get that sucker rebuilt before I retire, I'm gonna give em holy hell. It's time that thing is renovated. It's dangerous in there." She added that "We don't want to get left behind."
Mulkey has suggested LSU should consider 2 options:
1. A complete remodel of the existing facility
2. A new facility built next door to the PMAC
