Local Publisher John Settle Sues Shreveport City Council Chairman James Green
Local publisher John Settle, Jr. recently attended a Shreveport City Council meeting where he was completely "dressed down" by City Council Chairman James Green, who represents District F.
Although Green technically never called Settle by name in his diatribe, which was delivered from the "Horseshoe" at the City Council meeting, on the record, and in front of the public, he leveled several very unflattering accusations at, and about Settle.
I will refuse to call his name because he's a disbarred attorney, low grade. He has talked about my family. He has talked about my church. He has talked about me every day he figure out a word. He called me out of my name and if you've not gone to him and said you need to stop, then don't come to my face, after the meeting, saying James, "you know you ought to be the bigger person."
Settle's lawsuit contends Green "made many defamatory statements about Settle in the council chambers after the agenda had been concluded.." Some of the alleged defamatory statements include:
- Settle is a disbarred attorney, low grade
- Councilwoman Taylor would not sleep with him (Settle)
- He (Settle) broke the law by "coming up here and bringing me a check, he put checks on some other councilmember stations."
- He accused Settle of harrassing the "young black ladies" that work at the TV stations.
Settle denies all of the accusations. On Friday morning, Settle told KEEL News,
Well, if you review the comments that Mr. Green made... first of all they were totally false, they were defamatory, and they were intended to harm my publication, Focus SB slash The Inquisitor. He basically wanted all my advertisers to quit advertising, and most likely, all my readers to quit buying my paper.
