Chalk another one up for the good guys because the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) scored big this past weekend. They are keeping the good people of Texas safe with a record setting drug bust.

K-9 Alert Leads to Massive Fentanyl Pill Seizure

According to the TCSO, one of the K-9 deputies was performing a free-air sniff when it signaled to his human deputy counterpart a positive alert for drugs. The Sheriff's Office searched the car, and they found 350,000 counterfeit Fentanyl pills.  That's over 90 pounds of pills worth almost one and half million dollars.

Driver Arrested as Fentanyl is Taken Off Texas Streets

The driver was arrested, but the TCSO did not have any more details since it is an ongoing investigation. The most important detail is that there's one less drug dealer and a whole lot of drugs off of the Texas streets thanks to the K-9 deputy and his handler.

The Deadly Reality of Fentanyl: A National Crisis

Drugs are bad, but fentanyl may be the worst. Since 2021, the United States has suffered over 100,000 drug overdoses each year, and recently, fentanyl accounts for nearly 70% of those deaths. Fentanyl is about 50 times more potent than heroin, so even a small amount the size of a grain of salt can lead to an overdose in someone that doesn't have a tolerance to opioids.

Fentanyl's Indiscriminate Danger: From Celebrities to Kids

In 2023, 539 children between the ages of 10 and 19 died as a result of a fentanyl overdose. In recent years, there have been a staggering amount of celebrity deaths contributed to fentanyl as well. Angus Cloud overdosed in 2023. Tom Petty had fentanyl in his system when he passed away in 2017, and Prince suffered a fatal fentanyl overdose in 2016.

Tarrant County's Victory Against a Deadly Drug

Fentanyl doesn't care who you are, how old you are, whether you are famous, or if you are homeless. Fentanyl will kill you. It is arguably the most dangerous drug in the United States right now, and thanks to the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office there is a lot less of it on the streets right now.
