Here in Louisiana, we use the word "cute" a lot. Sometimes we use it when we are speaking of babies or puppies or something that was handmade by someone's grandmother. I can't say that I have ever used the word "cute" to describe a community or a town but the folks at World Atlas have. And based on their findings and their criteria one of the "cutest" towns in the South is right here in Louisiana.

Louisiana towns are always making lists or we are forever being upset when they don't make a list. For example, just last week a lot of us were up in arms when a publication offered a list of the most "Christmassy" towns in the nation and not a single Louisiana community made that list.

There was also another survey, or study if you will, that was published earlier this year. This study looked at "Most Romantic" small towns in the South. Again, Louisiana was represented nicely on that list. I guess "romance" and "Christmassy" are two different things.

What Is Louisiana's Cutest Small Town?

According to the Oxford Dictionary the word "cute" is defined as appealing in a pretty or endearing way. That word certainly would apply to many smaller communities not only in Louisiana but in the Gulf South in general. I believe the folks at World Atlas when they put their list of Cute Towns together had this definition in mind. I also think they leaned heavily into the word "charm", too.

The World Atlas story didn't list the towns in any particular order but some of the places that you may have heard of that were featured included Fredericksburg, Texas, Fairhope, Alabama, and Oxford, Mississippi. The Louisiana addition to that list was the one town that truly should have been on the Christmassy List. That town is Natchitoches, Louisiana.

Natchitoches is in prime time right now with all of the holiday lights on display. But even on a quiet summer day, Natchitoches is still very charming. It offers a lot of 18th and 19th-century charm combined with abundant history and lots of places to sit in the shade. The vibe is friendly and laid back and the historic parts of town are everything you'd want if you were looking for old southern charm.

10 Snowiest Cities in Louisiana

It may not snow much each year in Louisiana, but we do get some occasionally. Which cities and towns get the most though? We answer with statistics from Saturday Night Science and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). (The list below is only towns/cities with at least a population of 5,000 people.)
