Cowboys Make Splash Trade, Land Talented But Troubled WR George Pickens from Pittsburgh Steelers
The Dallas Cowboys have been in the market for offensive help since the moment Brian Schottenheimer was named the replacement for previous Head Coach Mike McCarthy. The team spent plenty of draft capital in this year's NFL Draft to add to their offense. Their First Round pick was used on OL Tyler Booker, and they added two running backs. One of those backs has a lot of fans excited; which is Jaydon Blue from Texas, who they took in the 5th round.
The Cowboys were down a 4th round pick in this year's draft, because of the help they tried to get on offense last season. They traded their 4th round pick to the Carolina Panthers for wide receiver Jonathan Mingo.
Breaking News: Cowboys Acquire George Pickens
Now, the Cowboys are swinging for another wide receiver in a trade. One that seems to have come together in the early morning hours.
Multiple major outlets are reporting that the Dallas Cowboys have agreed to trade for wide receiver George Pickens.
Pickens' Steelers Tenure and Statistics
Pickens has been a Pittsburgh Steeler since they selected him in the 2nd round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Now the Steelers are ready to ship him west to the Cowboys after three productive seasons.
During his Steelers career, Pickens has accumulated 2,841 receiving yards and 12 receiving touchdowns. You can add in 36 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown too.
Reported Concerns with Pickens
While in Pittsburgh, Pickens flashed signs of greatness with the catches he would make. But he also had flashes of problems. Numerous reports of attitude issues and work ethic arose during his Steelers tenure. The reports suggested that it wasn't just coaches or the front office that were frustrated with Pickens actions, but even his teammates.
Steelers' Offseason Moves Paved the Way
The writing may have been on the wall for Pickens in Pittsburgh after the team made a massive splash this offseason. The team traded with the Seattle Seahawks to acquire superstar receiver DK Metcalf. The Steelers also agreed to a deal with free agent receiver Robert Woods.
The Potential of the New Cowboys Receiving Corps
Pickens in Dallas could make for an explosive combo with current Cowboys superstar CeeDee Lamb.
Also remember, the Cowboys have Jonathan Mingo, who they got in a trade last year with the Panthers. Mix in Jalen Tolbert, who stepped up last season when injuries plagued the Cowboys. Tolbert ended up starting 15 games and brought in a respectable 610 yards and 7 touchdowns, catching passes from a mix of backup QBs.
The Cowboys may have the most explosive group of wide receivers in the NFC East, if not the whole NFL, after this move.
