When a New Orleans crime-watch syndicate recently took to social media to celebrate a major bust in the French Quarter, the city of New Orleans saw a group of dedicated National Guardsmen keeping its streets safe. But here in the Shreveport, we saw something and someone, much more familiar.

As it turns out, one of the sharp-eyed Guardsmen pictured in the viral report is none other than our very own Shreveport Police Officer Winston Carter.

Officer Carter is a prime example of what it means to go above and beyond. When he isn't patrolling the streets of Shreveport, he is serving our state and country as a member of the Louisiana National Guard. Currently, he is deployed to New Orleans to assist with the massive security undertaking that is Mardi Gras season.

The Bust that Put Him in the Spotlight

The recognition came via Project NOLA, a non-profit high-tech crime center. They highlighted two major arrests where the synergy between facial recognition technology and human boots-on-the-ground led to fast results.

On a Thursday night at 6:27 PM, National Guardsmen, including Officer Carter, embedded with Louisiana State Police Troop NOLA to surround a vehicle and apprehend a "Most Wanted" subject. The individual was wanted for a violent home invasion where a victim had been severely beaten. Just hours later, the team was at it again, apprehending another suspect wanted for purse snatching and battery.

Why Shreveport is Proud

Project NOLA called the work "amazing," noting that these arrests remove violent offenders from the streets before they can find their next victim. While the New Orleans community is grateful for the safer streets, we in Shreveport are beaming with pride.

Officer Carter, you are making the Shreveport Police Department look incredible on a state-wide stage. Your commitment to "Protect and Serve" clearly knows no city limits.

We know the French Quarter is in good hands with you on the watch, but we are certainly looking forward to your return this spring. Officer Carter is set to head back home to Shreveport this March. Until then, stay safe, keep up the outstanding work, and know that your entire community is rooting for you.

Great job, Officer Carter! We can’t wait to have you back on the home team.
