Expect Full Closures Of I-20 In Bossier This Week
The good news is that according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the I-20 reconstruction project is nearly two-thirds complete.

And the bad news? The remaining phase of the construction project will cause some immediate full closures of I-20, with the first of those coming in just a couple of days.
In an announcement from the DOTD, as contractors move into the third and final phase of the major I-20 rehabilitation project, eastbound traffic will need to be swapped from the outside lanes to the newly constructed inside lanes from the Red River Bridge (beginning lane closure area) to just east of Hamilton Road.
To facilitate this change, DOTD will institute intermittent full closures of I-20 eastbound beginning at 8:00 pm this Wednesday, February 5 and Thursday, February 6.
Eastbound motorists will be able to exit at the Benton Road off-ramp (Exit 20B).
These closures will allow the contractor to move the concrete barriers in order to begin the demolition and removal of the remaining outside lanes in the eastbound direction.
I-20 will be re-opened each morning by 6:00 am, though the intermittent closures are anticipated to be conducted in brief intervals.
Any remaining lanes in the westbound direction will be swapped in the coming weeks.
The interchanges at Old Minden Road and Industrial drive will also be re-opened in the coming weeks once the outside travel lanes have been completed at these locations. The eastbound on-ramp at Industrial Drive is open to traffic and will not be impacted by this project.
This entire project is scheduled to be completed late this year or early next year, barring inclement weather issues or other factors.
DOTD would also like to remind motorists that the I-20 rehabilitation zone in Bossier City from Hamilton Road to Industrial Drive remains prohibited to commercial motor vehicles such as 18-wheelers due to narrow lane widths. CMV drivers should utilize the primary detour of I-220.
Additionally, through travelers on I-20 are urged to utilize I-220 to avoid construction delays.
