Bossier School Board Announces Major Schedule Shift for 2026-27
Scheduling changes are being made to school systems all over Louisiana, and that's inclusive of Bossier Parish high schools.

In a story from KTBS, we learned "The Bossier Parish School Board is moving away from its traditional full-week program and adopting a modified A-B block schedule beginning next school year."
What this means, according to the KTBS article, is that "Under the new structure, students will take every core class each semester. They will attend four courses each day, five days a week. Monday will serve as an “anchor day” and will be the only switch day, rotating between A and B schedules."
It was discovered that under the present schedule, high school students could go too long without any instruction in their core classes. This new schedule will seek to provide relief for that.
More Louisiana Schools Are Now Transitioning To 4-Day School Weeks
Outside of Bossier Parish, in a move becoming more commonplace in Louisiana, we read from the Louisiana Radio Network, a number of parishes are making even more drastic scheduling changes and will soon transition to a four-day school week.
According to David Claxton, the executive director of the Louisiana Association of School Superintendents and Administrators, this move seems to be more prominent in rural parishes and is likely to be rooted in financial savings.
Claxton explains that in spite of reducing the number of days of instruction, students will still be required to get the full 63,720 minutes of instruction time per school year. Claxton said, “Their days may be longer, less breaks. They may be on a different schedule. But they still have to get the same number of minutes that a school on a five-day week gets.”
This begs the question, if a four-day school week can prove to be cost-effective and shore up personnel shortages for rural schools, could it also work for population explosion?
How Much Has Attendance Increased in Bossier Parish Schools?
According to US News and World Report, total enrollment in Bossier Parish Schools (PK-12) has grown from roughly 20,000–21,000 students in the mid-2000s to over 23,500 students as of 2024–2025.
In spite of newly constructed schools in the recent past including Kingston Elementary School, Haughton Middle School, Parkway High School, Benton High School, and the remodel/merger of Plain Dealing High School and Carrie Martin Elementary, it would appear the schools stay jam-packed.
So, if Bossier high school students will already divided into A and B schedules, couldn't one of those schedules only include instruction Monday through Thursday and the other run from Tuesday through Friday?
Though teachers wouldn't benefit from having an extra day off, class size would surely be reduced, and many feel as though that would lead to better instruction.
It's just a thought.
