I recently came across an article in Texas Monthly where they ranked the different foods found at the State Fair of Texas. Since that's only one of many throughout the state, I wanted to highlight the best of the best. Here are five popular fair foods that you've got to try when you find yourself at a Texas fairground.

Corn Dogs

Ah, a classic. The Corn Dog is a universal fair favorite, but Texans give it that special touch. Dipped in a cornmeal batter and fried up to golden perfection, it's easy to eat on the go. Pair it with some mustard or ketchup, and you're all set.

Turkey Legs

Picture biting into a juicy, smoky, tender turkey leg that's been grilled over an open flame. I like mine Texas style, seasoned with bold spices. They're a meat lover's dream and a staple at Texas fairs.

Funnel Cakes

You can't have a list of fair foods without mentioning Funnel Cakes. These deep-fried gems are made by pouring batter through a funnel into hot oil, making crispy, golden-brown deliciousness. Dust them up with powdered sugar and they melt in your mouth.

Fried Oreos

This fair favorite involves taking one of America’s most beloved cookies, dipping it in batter, then dropping it into a deep fryer. The result is a gooey, creamy, crispy slice of heaven you'll have to taste to believe.

Barbeque

From brisket sandwiches to pulled pork tacos, barbeque is king at Texas fairs. It's fun to see different vendors putting their own spin on this classic. The choices are endless and I love it.

The bottom line is this: if you're searching for some mouthwatering treats, a Texas fair is the place to be. Between the delicious barbequed meats and deep-fried confections, there’s something for everyone.

Everybody I know loves fair food. However, some meals just don't have the same appeal anymore. In fact, are they still even a thing? Look below to see what I mean.
