Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington is warning residents about a scam that's been circulating today.

The victim receives a phone call from someone who's supposedly from the Internal Revenue Service or the Department of Homeland Security. The caller says the person owes taxes and has to make a payment to clear up the issue.

Wittington reminds you to NOT give out personal information by phone or text, especially bank account info. If you've received a phone call like this, or have given out any of your personal info, call the IRS Scam Department at 1-800-366-4484 or the Bossier Sheriff's Office at 318-965-2203.

Bossier Police-Sheriff Financial Crimes Task Force detectives are investigating this scam and any others that might be popping up right now.
