UPDATE:

I-49 north is now back open to traffic. The investigation into the crash continues.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A head-on collision on I-49 late Sunday night near Shreveport has left 4 people hurt and a traffic headache for motorists.


Deputies got the call just before 10pm. Reports indicated a red vehicle was headed south in the northbound lanes on the interstate when the crash happened.

Multiple agencies responded including the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, Desoto Parish Sheriff’s Office, Shreveport Police, Caddo Fire District 6, Caddo Fire District 5 and the Shreveport Fire Department.

I-49 North was shut down near the Southern Loop, a half-mile south of mile marker 196, while I-49 South is restricted to just one lane while the accident is cleared up.

First responders extracted at least one person from he wreckage. At least three people were transported to the hospital, including one child.
Eyewitness reports say Life Air Helicopters were on the scene. One report indicates Caddo Deputies got a call about a careless and reckless driver on the interstate just prior to this crash.
