After a year off from Mardi Gras parades in Shreveport-Bossier City, we're ready for the Krewe of Highland to roll this Sunday!

If you like eclectic throws like Moon Pies, SPAM, and hotdogs, you'll love the Krewe of Highland Mardi Gras parade this Sunday, February 27th, 2022, starting at 2 pm, rolling through Shreveport's historic Highland neighborhood.

Anything goes with the Krewe of Highland and you can tell by the fun things they throw. I know one year I caught a package of Ramen noodles! The cool thing about this parade is that it takes place in the Highland neighborhood, running through some of the most prosperous parts of Shreveport as well as some of the more depressed. The Highland parade is all about inclusion and diversity and, of course, a great Bloody Mary before you roll at Marilyn's Place.

The parade entries you'll get to see are totally varied, just like the Krewe and the neighborhood it represents. You'll see everything from cheer groups celebrating Carnival from the back of a pickup truck all the way to decorated trailers to Krewe of Centaur floats rented for the occasion. If you're looking for a good place to set up, there's really no bad place to be along the route. The parade begins near Marilyn's Place and Ki' Mexico on Fern Avenue and rolls up Gilbert Drive at Slattery Boulevard to Gladstone Boulevard where it will make a left, then to Creswell Avenue where it will head right. The parade will then take a right on Herndon and then a right onto Centenary Boulevard before ending at Centenary and Gilbert.

Heads up, the roads that the parade will take will be closed at 12 pm, so you'll want to be in position before then or get ready to walk! Gilbert Drive will close at 7 am. City officials ask that parade-goers please stay out of the road and on sidewalks to allow for the safe passage of emergency personnel if needed.

Happy Mardi Gras, y'all! And as the Krewe of Highland likes to say, 'Huzzah!'
