SHREVEPORT, LA - A powerful storm system roared into northwest Louisiana on Monday afternoon as a result of Tropical Storm Beryl.

Tragic news from the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office:

One storm related fatality has been reported in the Benton area. A resident was killed after a tree fell on her house in northeast Benton. Details about the incident are limited at this time.

 

A mobile home in DeSoto Parish was reportedly rolled with two elderly residents inside. At least one of the victims was rushed to a local hospital.

This storm produced several tornadoes in the Ark-La-Tex. One of the hardest hit areas has been DeSoto Parish. Damage has been reported in Keachi, Logansport, Longstreet and surrounding communities.

It Was an Unprecedented Day

There were 67 tornado warnings yesterday, 2 severe thunderstorm warnings and 8 flash flood warnings. Since January 1st, there have been 100 tornado warnings, 286 severe thunderstorm warnings, 68 flash flood warnings.

There is some video of a tornado forming near the Elm Grove Community in south Bossier Parish.

Where Is the Damage?

The DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office says trees were knocked down across Highway 3015 and Smyrna. Crews were out during the afternoon trying to clear that roadway.

Lula Lane and Nubbin Ridge were also blocked by downed trees. Damage has also been reported on Highway 5 near the Ward Palmer Road.

A local church suffered severe damage in this tornado. It is the Beulah Baptist church in the Lula area.

There have also been reports of damage in the Benton area and across north Bossier Parish. Specific reports have come in from the area around Crouch Road and Highway 162.

Elm Grove residents have also reported damage from these storms.

Webster Parish officials are also confirming damage and trees down along Highway 79.

Much of northwest Louisiana was under a tornado watch for the better part of the night.

The storms are now moving out of the area. Officials with the National Weather Service will go out to access the damage to try to confirm if there were confirmed tornado touchdowns in the area.
