A north Louisiana police chief has been arrested on charges that include malfeasance in office.

The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office says it arrested Goldonna Police Chief Johnny Earl Rowell on Friday as part of an investigation that involves one of the chief's relatives. The sheriff's office didn't identify the relative.

Detective Greg Dunn, chief of investigations for the sheriff's office, said he couldn't elaborate on the details of the investigation.

The 63-year-old Rowell was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center on one count of malfeasance in office and one count of being an accessory after the fact.

Goldonna is a village in Natchitoches Parish with roughly 430 residents.
