SHREVEPORT, LA – Gas prices are coming down. But we still need more relief at the pump. But one of the nation’s largest gas station corporations is scaling back.

This major gas station chain is in the process of closing more than 1,000 stations across the nation. This bad news comes as we move to more electric cars. The company says the gas stations of the future will look different. They will have to adapt to the demand for EV charging stations.

What Gas Station Company Is Closing Stores?

Shell made the announcement in its 2024 Energy Transition Strategy report, saying the measure is “in response to customer needs” and aimed at reallocating those resources towards EV charging stations.

How many Shell Gas Stations Will Be Closing?

• There are more than 12,000 Shell gas stations across the US. Specific stations slated for closure have not yet been announced. But the energy giant has announced they will be closing at least 1,000 gas stations.

Shell owns dozens of stations all across Louisiana has already started the process of closing stores. More will happen in 2025.

Shell is not the most common station across north Louisiana, but we do have them dotted around the region. We are still waiting to see if the stores will be closed all together, or will they be sold to other companies.  If the stores are sold, will we see many changes? We still don’t know the answer to that.

Chevron, Shell and Exxon Mobil are the largest gas stations in Louisiana in 2024 based on the number of locations. Chevron has the most number of locations with 369 locations across 168 cities. Shell has 329 and Exxon Mobil has 327 locations in Louisiana. These three together make 69.07% of the top 10 gas stations in Louisiana.
