VIDEO: Are Crowds Out of Control at Shreveport Park?
SHREVEPORT, LA - Residents near a west Shreveport park say they are tired of battling the crowds, loud music and racing that has been happening on Sunday afternoons. They are urging the police department to step in and do something about the problem.
For the past several weeks, crowds have been gathering at Ford Park on South Lakeshore Drive. Many show up in tricked out cars for a little stunt driving and some burnouts. But this partying comes with very loud music and huge crowds. Often the roads around the park get bottlenecked during these festivities.
These are not officially organized events. They are typically spontaneous events that are posted on social media and the crowds show up. Often it's young people looking for a little excitement and something to do on a Sunday afternoon. But now it seems to be getting out of hand and residents want police to keep a closer eye on the park.
Shreveport Councilwoman Tabitha Taylor has also asked Police Chief Wayne Smith to put together a task force along with Sheriff Henry Whitehorn to disperse these crowds when they get out of hand. She says they often leave the park and then continue racing on city streets. And in this case, some of the roads are not in the city limits and that's why she wants the Sheriff involved. She says this racing poses a danger to residents who live in the area. Taylor also says the loud music is rocking pictures hanging on walls in homes several blocks away from the park.
We expect to see a much heavier police presence at Ford Park this weekend.
