
Shreveport Area Leads State in Fatal Crash So Far This Year
One of the biggest problems facing law enforcement in northwest Louisiana is responding to traffic accidents. Many of these crashes result in serious injuries or even deaths. The Shreveport area leads the state in fatal crashes so far this year.
What Does the 2025 Fatal Crash Data Show?
There have been 371 fatalities in highway crashes in Louisiana so far this year. Checking out details in the report from the Center for Analytics at LSU, 222 drivers were killed in wrecks. The latest report that 43 passengers died in wrecks and 78 pedestrians were killed in traffic accidents. 22 bicyclists have also died as a result of traffic accidents so far this year.
As we begin the new school year, we all need to be extra careful on the roads.
Over the past 2 years, Caddo Parish has ranked 3rd for the most numbers of fatal accidents. In 2024, there were 41 in Caddo compared to 38 fatal crashes in 2023.
East Baton Rouge Parish led the state last year with 71 fatal wrecks and the state capitol also led the pack in 2023 with 73 fatal crashes in 2023. Orleans Parish recorded 61 deaths in accidents last year and 60 in 2023.
Fatal Wrecks so Far in 2025
Caddo Parish leads all parishes in the state for fatal wrecks so far this year. According to the latest data from the Center for Analytics at LSU, there have been 29 fatal wrecks in Caddo Parish so far in 2025. There have been 26 fatal wrecks in Orleans Parish so far this year and 26 in East Baton Rouge Parish. Calcasieu has recorded 25 fatal wrecks so far this year.

Bienville Parish had 2 people killed in crashes so far this year.
Bossier Parish had 7 people killed in crashes so far this year.
Caddo Parish had 29 people killed in crashes so far this year.
DeSoto Parish had 10 people killed in crashes so far this year.
Natchitoches Parish had 7 people killed in crashes so far this year.
Red River Parish had 1 people killed in crashes so far this year.
Sabine Parish had 8 people killed in crashes so far this year.
Webster Parish had 7 people killed in crashes so far this year.
What Is the Cause of Most of the Crashes?
The 5‐year average shows 78% of fatal crashes involves one of the four factors:
- Alcohol
- Distraction
- Aggressive Driving
- No Seat Belt
The report does show seat belt use in the Shreveport area is at 87.8%. New Orleans and Monroe lead the state with 88.3% seat belt use. Alexandria drivers only buckle up at a rate of 73.7%. the worst rate of all the metro areas.
When Do Fatal Crashes Happen?
The data shows these tragedies happen at all times of the day, but the numbers do go up over the weekends. Fatal wrecks from Friday to Sunday total nearly 43% of all fatal crashes. And the stats show more fatal crashes happen late in the evening and into the early morning hours.
