Three people are dead after an early-morning crash involving an 18-wheeler on I-20 in Bienville Parish.

Louisiana State Police Spokesman Albert Paxton says a van driven by 48-year-old Miguel Salas of Lillington, North Carolina, had pulled onto the shoulder of I-20, after 10-year-old Miguel Moreno said he wasn't feeling well. Salas and Moreno were standing on the shoulder, then they were hit by the big rig.

The truck also hit the side of the van, which left the interstate and crashed into a tree. Moreno, Salas and the 18-wheeler driver were all pronounced dead at the scene. Three passengers in the van suffered minor injuries.

State police continue to investigate. Troopers say it's possible the rig's driver fell asleep behind the wheel.
