Shreveport Is Getting Dog Park #2
Dog lovers in Shreveport will soon have another option for some playtime fun with the pups.
A second dog park is now being built at the Southern Hills Park on Bert Kouns. The ground breaking ceremony for the new dog park was held Friday morning.
Shreveport's Dog Park #1 along the riverfront at East Stoner has been open for several years. And now southwest Shreveport is getting an area dedicated just for doggies.
Ground breaking events have been delayed a couple of times because of weather issues. But the delays are over. City and parish leaders shoveled some dirt today to signal the beginning of construction on this park.
This new play space for pups will be located inside Southern Hills Park in southwest Shreveport, is being built with support from the Southern Hills Business Association. Funding, says Shreveport Dog Park Alliance Director Cynthia Keith, is coming from both the City of Shreveport and added funding from the state. The major source of park funding will come from a "one time grant from the city," as Keith describes it, totaling about $80,000.
